Road Trip Through the Bible
ET’S take a road trip! As I’ve mentioned on social media and here at Theolatte, I’m taking my twins on a Route 66 trip over the next several days. We’re going through the sixty-six books of the Bible on our way. Want to join us? I’ll update the blog each day with the passages and a few tips.
We’re reading a verse from six books of the Bible every day. At this pace, we will cover the entire biblical story in eleven days. To keep with the Route 66 theme, we’re reading the sixth verse of the sixth chapter of every book of the Bible that has at least six chapters. For the hand full of books of the Bible that have less than six chapters we’re reading the sixth verse of the first chapter.
Starting tomorrow, I’ll post our six verses that we covered the previous day with a little summary commentary of the passages. To kick off the study I taught my boys a summary statement for the entire Bible. Here it is, “God created us to live in his presence and be satisfied with his goodness.” With each Bible passage we read I have the boys write the verse out in a notebook and then answer three questions:
1.) What is this verse about?
2.) After they do a quick flip through of the book of the Bible, looking at the headings and summary statements most Bibles have, they answer the question, “How does this verse fit into the big picture of this book of the Bible?”
3.) Finally, I have them write a paragraph about how the verse fits into the big theme of the Bible that, “God created us to live in his presence and be satisfied with his goodness.”
At some point, I plan to organize this into a pdf that I’ll make available for anyone who wants to do the eleven day challenge to get a survey of the sixty-six books of the Bible. Until then, you can follow to my posts over the next eleven days.
