What’s Wrong With Heaven

My son Josiah loves Kane Brown’s music. Like with my other kids, I try to listen to music by artists they like and talk about it. I spent my teen years in a church where any form of “secular” music was discouraged (though that was never enforced in our home). I attended a Bible college where they only allowed students to listen to Southern Gospel (not my style at all). Maybe I’m swinging the pendulum too far (I don’t think I am), but we give our kids plenty of margin to think about art they like.

For full disclosure, I like Kane Brown’s music too. His song “Thank God,” which he sings with his wife, could very easily be played on most Christian music stations, though it’s mainstream country. His song “Heaven” also carries religious themes but hits on a common misconception of Heaven. I think we regularly default to a view of eternity with God as something stoic, passive, and even boring. But that doesn’t at all line with up with biblical view that “In your presence there is fullness of joy and at your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:11).

Check out the video and think about how you might explain to your child, or another child, how eternity with God will be far greater than anything we experience on earth.
